Practice

Created on 07/04/2008

As any entry under the title PRACTICE, what I offer you today is a suggestion to apply to your own line of work. I trust you will be able to find the best way to utilize this practice and I believe that only you know what is best for you internally and how to initiate the changes you need. Therefore, use other people's advice and suggestions only as guidance to approaching your own inner authority and do not give your power to anybody outside yourself, no matter how "powerful", "important" or "influential" those people may appear to you. (I can almost sense how some "gurus" out there start twitching their muscles, but what the heck, there is no news there, I've seen that before...).

So I say it again: You are the only person you can truly change. Only you decide.

The following is a suggestion to work with an individual time line in order to bring healing for any past events:

Pact between Past Self and Future Self with Present Self in the middle.

I invite my Past Self to negotiate the transition through me to the Future Self.

I am willing to let parts of myself go that my Future Self doesn't need and I am willing to give it as a sacrifice to my Future Self to be the best She/He can. In return, my Future Self promises to keep the connection and to bring her/his energy, wisdom and support to past events where the Past Self needs it the most, so the time line heals and there is no more interruption between Past, Present, and Future.

With all parts of my Self in agreement, so be it.

Thank you for the ideas of how to work with a time line to bring healing for past events. Presumably this technique can be employed in everyday problems of living, as well as to people suffering with trauma.

Past, Future and Present Selves reminds me of the explanations of how we perceive a melody. As the melody progresses we are directly aware of only one note at a time, yet we recognise the tune. We do this by remembering the notes that have gone before in their correct sequence, anticipating the notes that are to come, then combining the two to give a subjective awareness of the whole melodic sequence.

There is a further point that the “I” of “I am consciously aware” cannot be in a time sequence at all, for “I” cannot be aware of time if “I” am in time, therefore “I” must be timeless. This could be distinguished by the phrase “Living Present” as opposed to just “Present”. It is an intriguing idea but difficult to grasp.

Best Wishes

David

Having had a guru years ago I can appreciate
the warning you give about giving ourselves
to others.
As you say in your book ‘Master of Lucid Dreams’
there is already a tendency to avoid healing
because we may feel the negative attachments
are part of us.Then instead of healing we would
do the opposite and allow a guru to build more
walls inside us than there was in the first place.
This is why I like the shamanic way because it
gives the individual his/her own path.

Hello,

I like the music comparison David made. Just like a melody exists in time, so does memory. Maybe memories make up the melody of our life…

Psychologically speaking, I wonder if the practical exercise given above, is a way to bend time in our minds? To take two points separated by time-space, bending that linear time frame, and making them meet at a single instant. Thus, overcoming the following problem, “the traumatized person feels instinctively that the past is cut off and she would never be the same"*. At this point could we say that this is what happens in ritualistic context where, “a purposeful healing ceremony which by itself was decoding the traumatic memory and encoding the new post-trauma identity for the person healed"*. Past and future meet in a single instant, healing occurs, and the healed time frame is reestablished.

If my understanding is correct, then in this post Olga gave us a direct application of magic that we can use on ourselves to overcome addictions and compulsions.

I am really looking forward to reading the next post,
Thank you,
Magali.

Olga,On a mental level I understand the ‘practice’,but in my admittedly limited understanding of how a human functions, reading the text would not be enough;there would have to be an energeic connection to the body.Formatted in a way that the body could metabolize directly.Would an altered state of conscioussness be sufficient,to make the link? or something else?Spaciba balshoi,Raffaela

When I was 7 I met my first Guru, got mantra and started on meditation. Now i’m over 40 and slightly beginning to understand the teaching I got as very young. There is nothing wrong with a Guru - just means teacher. But on my road I’ve met lots of Gurues I didn’t like - specielly the EGO gurues has a strage energy. Lots of people practice and follow a road and I fully agree it’s all inside you. All the tools and all the power, but still lots of people needs a programe to follow or a lifepath with certain roles. I learned that every problem has a solution - but knowing how to solve it, is much more importent than knowing solution it self.
